Shiitake fruiting works differently than many other grow kits. Your block may arrive brown, bumpy, or with white “popcorn-like” growth, and may even have small mushrooms forming inside the bag. This is normal and usually means it’s ready to fruit. For best results, remove the plastic bag and fruit the block as a bare block in high humidity with gentle fresh air. Then watch the mushrooms emerge over the next 2–3 weeks.
